We LUV Southwest Airlines – as a company, as way to travel and as a brand.
Southwest Airlines is one of those companies that Stands Out. Not only do they follow their purpose - to connect People to what's important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel – in every aspect of their business, but this company knows what they stand for and lives it. Southwest stands for The Freedom to Fly and they portray this in everything they do through the teamwork in their company.
The teamwork that their employees embody helps make Southwest Airlines one of the top Airline companies in the United States. Without the motivation and dedication from employees to deliver quality service to every customer, Southwest would not be the company it is today. Even their mission is “dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit.”
But their customer service is only one aspect of how this company Stands Out. Another is their story. Roy Spence wrote about Southwest in his book, It’s Not What You Sell, It’s What You Stand For. He tells the story of two guys who wanted to make flights between Texas cities cheaper and more available. Herb Kelleher and Rollin King started with that purpose and created an airline that gave people the opportunities to fly, a service once only available to 15% of the American public. And that’s what they have been doing ever since – allowing people the opportunity to fly. They let you bring your bags for free; they offer multiple cheap flights around the nation; they give us the freedom to fly.
As Gary Kelly, Chairman, President and CEO of Southwest, stated, “Our competitors can buy similar airplanes and serve the same airports, but they cannot match our People, they cannot match our Culture, and they cannot match the Teamwork we display in fulfilling our Purpose…”
